Legendary young pianist YUNDI's Mercury Classics/Deutsche Grammophon recording of Beethoven piano sonatas, released internationally last month, has gone Platinum in China. The sales milestone follows news that his recordings occupied ten of the top 15 spots on Amazon China's Top 15 Music bestsellers this quarter. The category includes all music genres, including classical, jazz and pop.
YUNDI is currently touring in Europe, with recitals in Munich, Paris, London and Liverpool still to come. His programme features the Beethoven sonatas included on the disc: the Pathétique, the Moonlight and the Appassionata. YUNDI was propelled on to the international stage when he won first prize at the XIV Chopin International Piano Competition at the age of 18, becoming the youngest and first Chinese winner in the history of the prestigious competition. He has since caused a sensation in the world's leading concert halls.
