RAMEAU Hippolyte et Aricie Minkowski 4458532
It's the French vs. the French in the battle for top place among recordings of THE Rameau tragédy lyrique . . . one can only admire the sumptuous overall sound (Rameau comes across as more 'Italian' than usual in this impassioned version) that Minkowski, a true man of the theatre, coaxes from the group. And his cast is fully worthy of the excellent ensemble . . . Our choice finally goes to the Minkowski recording.
