KATHLEEN BATTLE Honey and Rue 4377872
There is no question that this is one of his finest pieces; everything comes together, from his miraculous setting of the words (where Morrison's justly famous powers of direct description and easy comprehensibility come into play so importantly) to the bending of the emotive content of the texts into musical lines so perfectly adapted to Battle's voice, to the dramatic arch he creates over the whole-most likely subconscious -- this is a masterpiece of fluent expression and a textbook for lyric-setting. On top of all that, the melodies he creates are so catchy and memorable; you can't ever forget "Take My Mother Home" even after a first hearing, and believe me, there will be many . . . it deserves a prominent place in the Hall of Fame.
