Their enunciation is exemplary, and . . . one can hear even the less familiar languages clearly. The programme presents them in an intimate vein and is particularly valuable because the duets by the most familiar composers are much less well known than their respective Lieder . . . The most unusual thing comes fist: four Wolf songs for each singer in the composer's own orchestrations. The have a startling effect, above all in Mignon's 'Kennst du das Land', so famous in its piano version. Lear sings it with considerable amplitude . . . Stewart's performance of the nine-minute "Prometheus" makes a powerful impact . . . [Lear in Senta's Ballade and both in the duet 'Wie aus der Ferne'] really comes into his own and is both strong and subtle . . . she gives the character a proto-Expressionist intensity that predicts her outstanding assumptions of Berg's Marie and Lulu . . . The profusion of content and the variety of singing styles in this set are a tribute to its two soloists . . . Throughout . . . this set radiates a joy in singing and an indefinable quality of musical good will.

. . . a beautiful tribute, featuring the couple . . . in solo music and duets. The music ranges from the ultra-familiar. . . to the distinctly unusual . . .
