The Brahms Edition

DG released its original Brahms Edition in 1983 on 62 LPs. 14 years later, as part of the Brahms anniversary year of 1997, the company re-released an upgraded version of the edition on 46 CDs in eight boxed sets. It features all the works that survived the notoriously self-critical composer's red pencil, and that he himself numbered and published. But it also includes works such as the Hungarian Dances and German Folksongs of which he regarded himself as an arranger rather than the composer, but which could not reasonably be omitted from any survey of his output. ...
