Avi Avital & Mahan Esfahani at Bristol Proms
Friday 1 August, 7pm
The Bristol Proms festival, inspired by the hugely popular concerts held in the city in the 1840s, presentes music performances in ways never done before by combining world-class classical music artists with cutting-edge digital technologies.
The mandolin artist Avi Avital and virtuoso harpsichord player Mahan Esfahani present a programme that explores some of the most attractive backstreets of the Baroque in music by Scarlatti, Vivaldi and Bach, as well as roaming into the 20th century.
From very different backgrounds in Iran and Israel, both men are driven by a passion for their music and contemporary resonance of their instruments, one dating back to the early renaissance, the other to ancient Persia. This is their meeting point.
