YELLOW LABEL NETS TRIO OF TOP AWARDS AT VICTOIRES DE LA MUSIQUE
Violinist Nemanja Radulović has been honoured as “Solo Instrumentalist of the Year” and the Henri Dutilleux recording Correspondances as the “Best Recording of the Year” at the prestigious Victoires de la Musique ceremony, held last night at the Grand Théâtre de Provence, Aix-en-Provence and broadcast live on France 3. DG star accordionist Richard Galliano was named “Best Composer” for his Fables of Tuba, whose world premiere was given last March at the Palais du Pharo in Marseille.
It is the second time Radulović has won the award, having been proclaimed the “International Revelation of the Year” at the 2005 ceremony. Last month he signed an exclusive global recording deal with Deutsche Grammophon. He has previously released an album on DG in France and under the new agreement his first international album will be produced by the hugely successful French composer-producer Yvan Cassar – known for his work with platinum-selling artists such as Roberto Alagna, Jean-Michel Jarre and Céline Dion.
Correspondances was released in January 2013 as a tribute to internationally acclaimed composer Henri Dutilleux on his 97th birthday. The album contains his song cycle Correspondances as well as Tout un monde lointain and The Shadows of Time, recorded by Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, soprano Barbara Hannigan, and cellist Anssi Karttunen under the baton of Esa-Pekka Salonen. It was a world premiere recording of his song cycle Correspondances and the composer himself was in attendance during the making of the album.
Richard Galliano’s releases on the Yellow Label include his own arrangements of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons (“effortless virtuosity” – BBC Music Magazine), an all-Bach disc (“This is gorgeous stuff” – Boston Globe), a Nino Rota collection (with Galliano’s own Nino), and some spectacular playing on Avi Avital’s Between Worlds.
