This superb film on the colorful life of Frida Kahlo . . . has an equally colorful score from Goldenthal and many other musicians . . .

Film music does not always translate well to CD when you take the viusal image away. "There has to be a certain ebb and flow to it," says Elliot. But he is particularly pleased with the structure of the CD "Music from the Motion picture Frida". And his pride is well founded. In fact, the disc could be renamed "Mexico Calling". . . Mission accomplished.

CD of the Week . . . a fine album of Mexican music whether you have seen the film or not.

A soundtrack full of top Mexican material. The vital voices, strings and songs of Mexican musicians form an integral part of the narrative of the film . . ., providing composer Elliot Goldenthal with the richest of material for his Oscar-winning soundtrack.
