Deutsche Grammophon scoops “Contemporary” honours at Gramophone awards

Deutsche Grammophon has taken the “Contemporary” honours at this year’s Gramophone Classical Music Awards. Netting the Contemporary Award is Dutilleux: Correspondances an extraordinary tribute to the composer on his 97th birthday, starring soprano Barbara Hannigan, cellist Anssi Karttunen and the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France under Esa-Pekka Salonen.

Gramophone said: “Barbara Hannigan has made the music very much her own and the nonagenarian composer has written a new, suitably stratospheric ending for her, as magical as one might have hoped.”

“The exquisite sound-world of Henri Dutilleux is one of the most refined in all contemporary music, and is here caught to perfection by . . . Esa-Pekka Salonen” – Nicholas Kenyon in the Observer.
