MAHLER Bernstein Compl. Record. Vol. III 4775187
. . . [I] am immensely pleased with the sight and sound of both . . . these performances are . . . full of the excitement and intense commitment that Bernstein brought to the music of Gustav Mahler. The soundtrack for the Eighth admirably captures the vast array of instruments, choirs, soloists, and pipe organ, especially in the DTS 5.1 option.
I have incredible memories of performing Mahler's ninth symphony with the Royal Concertgebouw under Leonard Bernstein. He was extremely wild during the rehearsals, but calmed down during the concerts -- that rehearsal tension, though, led to phenomenal performances.
