Beethoven stürmisch, leidenschaftlich musiziert -- oft hinreißend musikantisch. Wie sehr die Philharmoniker Bernstein damals adorierten, hört man aus manch herzhaftem Solo. Bernstein meinte einst, wenn er nur eine einzige Aufnahme auf die einsame Insel mitnehmen dürfte, dann wäre es die der orchestralen Version von Beethovens spätem cis-Moll-Streichquartett op. 131. Wer sie hört, versteht ihn . . .
