. . . the bulk of the music falls to Wieslaw Ochmann and Teresa Stratas, and they do it most engagingly. Ochmann's soft tenor provides just the right sort of sound for the repressed young man who has never found love . . . It does . . . convey the spirit of the piece admirably . . . it makes for a colourful diversion both musically and visually.

It's a bitter-sweet piece with some lovely music . . . Teresa Stratas as a meltingly lovely Sonia.

. . . Stratas is a 'natural' on camera. Her highly individual, sensuously appealing lyric voice is caught at its absolute peak. With the nobility and exceptional elegance of both his presence and his vocalism, Ochman could hardly be a more suitable partner . . . the tenor sings with clarity, elegance and noble expressiveness throughout.

. . . this is the closest we can expect to a video "Zarewitsch" until it is produced by the good people at the Mörbisch lake festival. Ochman and Stratas are good reasons to watch the film and the "traditional" dancing by the Kuban Cossack dancers is spectacular. Recommended, with eyes open.
