. . . the results are very winning . . . The other two items are outstanding: a very slow, radiant and intense reading of the Barber, and a quite lovely account of "Appalachian Spring" which combines buoyant rhythms and great expressiveness with an essential simplicity of utterance.

. . . this "Apalachian Spring" is compelling.

. . . the string-playing is tense and impassioned . . . Copland fares best of all. Bernstein never lost his affection, nor his affinity, for the music of his friend and mentor. The playing is superbly clean (so important in this work) and free from exaggeration, the recording equally so.
