. . . [the first ever recording of C.P.E. Bach's "Trio Sonata in B flat minor for violin, flute and basso continuo"]: This dazzling piece sees Lisa teaming up with the great flautist Emmanuel Pahud . . . [J.S. Bach / "Erbarme Dich, mein Gott"]: Batiashvili duets with her husband, the celebrated oboist Francois Leleux. It's a startling arrangement which more than communicates what this music means to the couple, as well as what they mean to each other. Batiashvili always plays with precision, emotion and a beautifully pure tone, and brings a modern, heartfelt sound to some Bach family masterpieces.

The violinist's abilities are probably best demonstrated on the "Sonata No. 2 for Solo Violin", which poses a succession of intriguing performances questions that she answers with dextrous panache. But the most rewarding pieces are those on which her husband, Francois Leleux, provides the oboe part: the "Double concerto for Violin, Oboe, Strings & Continuo", for example, is clearly the result of much rehearsal and study, the couple's lines braiding with perfect equilibrium, an elegant dance rather than a dialogue.

  • Watch Lisa Batiashvili perform Bach's Cantata BWV 156 from her new album "Bach", to be released on Deutsche Grammophon.

Lisa Batiashvili presents a fine selection of chamber and orchestral music, including both popular, but also newly recorded Bach pieces - among the latter is for instance the first ever recording of Bach's famous aria "Erbarme Dich, mein Gott" in a transcription for violin, oboe and orchestra on Deutsche Grammophon.
