BORN IN UKRAINE Daniel Hope | Deutsche Grammophon

With his upcoming album Born in Ukraine, Daniel Hope presents a personal tribute to the country and a journey through 150 years of Ukrainian musical history, rooted in his own longstanding connection to Ukraine.

From the pioneering voices of Mykola Lysenko, Yakiv Stepovy and Borys Lyatoshynsky to Sergei Bortkiewicz, Mykola Leontovych and Valentin Silvestrov, as well as composers writing today, the album brings together familiar melodies and rarely heard works. Hope is joined by the young Ukrainian pianists Alina Pronina, Roman Fediurko and Vitalii Kyianytsia, together exploring music shaped by memory and displacement, belonging and renewal.

The full album will be released digitally and on CD on 13 November. Pre-order the CD edition in the DG Store.

Listen to a second pre-release track, an expressive rendition of Silvestrov’s 5 Pieces: No. 1, Elegie.
