This 11-CD edition brings together Jian Wang’s recordings for DG, Universal Music Australia, and DG China. The Chinese cellist is a virtuoso whose playing combines emotional depth with flawless technique. His artistry captivates audiences with warmth, elegance, and expressive power, whether in the world’s greatest concert halls or on more intimate stages.
At the age of ten, Wang was invited to perform for Isaac Stern. This appearance was featured in Stern’s acclaimed film From Mao to Mozart and attracted international attention. As a soloist, chamber musician, recording artist, and teacher, Wang became the first Chinese musician to sign an exclusive contract with DG.
In addition to the original album covers, this edition includes a booklet featuring new liner notes by Jessica Duchen, based on an extensive interview with the artist. The repertoire spans composers from Couperin, Bach, and Haydn to Boccherini, Mozart, Schumann, and Brahms, as well as Fauré, Elgar, Sibelius, and Messiaen. It also includes collaborations with renowned artists such as Maria João Pires, Gil Shaham, and Göran Söllscher.
