A Prayer To The Dynamo Suites from Sicario & The Theory of Everything

DG is proud to release the world premiere recording of J&oacute;hann J&oacute;hannsson&rsquo;s A Prayer to the Dynamo. This major orchestral work was inspired in general by the composer&rsquo;s fascination with technology, and in particular by field recordings he made at Iceland&rsquo;s Elli&eth;a&aacute;r power plant and the writings of Henry Adams. It is paired on this new album with two suites he compiled and arranged from existing material drawn from his Academy Award-nominated scores for Sicario and The Theory of Everything.&nbsp;

Pianist Alice Sara Ott announces her upcoming album featuring world premiere recordings of piano transcriptions of late Icelandic composer J&oacute;hann J&oacute;hannsson&rsquo;s most famous works. It includes some of J&oacute;hannsson&rsquo;s most iconic works from different films as well as from his studio albums, including Orph&eacute;e and Englab&ouml;rn. Though Ott never met J&oacute;hannsson, she had always loved his music. In preparing for this unique project, she spoke to several of his friends and colleagues to gain greater insight into his work and processes: &ldquo;As I worked on these pieces &ndash; internalising the musical architecture, shapes and language of J&oacute;hann&rsquo;s music &ndash; it actually felt like a very personal dialogue with him.&rdquo;<span data-ccp-props="{&quot;134233117&quot;:false,&quot;134233118&quot;:false,&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559738&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:257,&quot;469777462&quot;:[2136],&quot;469777927&quot;:[0],&quot;469777928&quot;:[1]}">&nbsp;
&ldquo;What&rsquo;s so incredible about J&oacute;hannsson&rsquo;s music,&rdquo; concludes Ott, &ldquo;is how his compositions, originally written for larger ensembles and different instruments, translate so beautifully to the piano. Within this more focused and intimate sound world, the writing reveals hidden nuances and enhances the purity and clarity that are so intrinsic to his music.&rdquo;
As part of the overarching project Ott will release two digital EPs by the end of this year, leading up to the release of the full album next year.
