The voices are exceptionally clear and natural-sounding and the balance allows us to hear every musical detail of the group's a capella performances . . .
The ensemble and individual musicianship of these singers certainly is worthy of praise, and the sincerity of expression and care devoted to diction and other musical details are qualities we can all admire. These recordings and the Trapp family story are both a bit of history and a happy reminder of several important aspects of Christmas --transcendent love, music and family -- and along with the music, this CD's fine liner notes and photographs help to place everything in a real-world context that will disturb many listeners' film-fantasy perception. But that's exactly why you should hear it.

25 Christmas favourites, first official release on CD, newly remastered. Who could resist? . . . These mono recordings made in 1951 and 1953, when the von Trapps had long been domiciled in America, atmospherically capture the nine unpretentious and well-integrated voices in short traditionals and pieces by Praetorius, Victoria, Palestrina and others, treble-dominated and almost a capella. A homely delight.

In den frühen 50er Jahren haben die Trapps Weihnachtslieder aufgenommen, schön und empfindsam gesungen. Eine neue CD als Alternative zum Weihnachtshörmüll.
