3 Years after his last recording Grigory Sokolov, who turned 70 earlier this year, returns with a double album of live recordings in both audio and video from his triumphant 2019/20 tour. Focusing on 3 Beethoven sonatas (Nos. 3, 27 & 32), Brahms’s autumnal piano pieces opp. 118 & 119, and 2 Mozart sonatas (K 545 and K 457) the album.
“His pianism is stupendous…but Sokolov’s real magic occurs in the moment, in his fine art of making music live, transcending epochs, levitating, always mindful that our playing must end” (Tagesspiegel).
The double audio and video album is released today on CD+DVD and visual streaming album. The audio-only album is available on audio streaming services and includes the early Beethoven Sonata No. 3 and the Brahms piano pieces opp. 118 & 119 along with multiple encores.
