Biography
German pianist-composer Justus Eichhorn is one of the most gifted and charismatic artists of his generation. Still just 16 years old and continuing his standard education as well as his specialist music studies, he has performed in Europe, China and Korea, attracting sell-out audiences to prestigious venues from Hamburg and Zurich to Shenzhen and Seoul.
As a Gen Alpha artist, Eichhorn is a creative user of social media (@justus.pianist), regularly posting clips of his practice sessions on Instagram, Facebook and TikTok, and both short videos and full-length performances on YouTube. With half a million followers and counting, he is attracting classical fans and new listeners of all ages to his live appearances as well as his online content.
June 2026 saw the start of a collaboration with Deutsche Grammophon. Eichhorn will make his DG debut with The Source, an album that traces the rich musical history of his birthplace, Weimar, through works by J.S. Bach, Czerny, Mendelssohn, Liszt, Hindemith, Schubert and R. Strauss. It also features studies by Czerny, Eichhorn’s piano arrangement of the slow movement from Vivaldi’s Flautino Concerto, RV 443 and the world premiere recordings of three of his own original works. The Source will be released on 11 September 2026.
In the 2026–27 season Eichhorn will complete a Beethoven piano concerto cycle by performing Concerto No. 4 at venues across Germany and in the Czech city of Hradec Králové. He will give recitals in France, Germany, Switzerland and Austria.
Born in 2009 into a musical family, Justus Eichhorn began improvising on the piano at three and started lessons at six, with Helene and Sebastian Roth. He made his debut at ten, performing Haydn’s Piano Concerto in D major. Since then he has given both solo recitals and concerto performances worldwide, including a tour of China in 2025. Among his numerous awards are first prize at the 2019 Carl Bechstein Competition in Berlin, the 2021 Elba Festival Prize, and the 2022 Swiss Charity Award. He has appeared twice at the Verbier Festival Academy.
As well as attending Weimar’s Musikgymnasium Schloss Belvedere, Eichhorn is a pupil of Grigory Gruzman at the Hochschule für Musik Franz Liszt, having started classes there at the age of nine. He is studying conducting alongside the piano, and has taken up invitations for lessons from both Christoph Eschenbach and Sir András Schiff. When not practising, studying or touring, he loves skiing and playing football.
