Lang Lang presents a treasure trove of musical discoveries in this album: Saint-Sa&euml;ns&rsquo;s Piano Concerto No. 2, recorded with the Gewandhausorchester and Andris Nelsons, is a true romantic masterpiece for Lang Lang that rivals the great concertos by Rachmaninoff or Tchaikovsky. Pairing it with Carnival of the Animals, a whimsical menagerie that has captivated young hearts for generations, Lang Lang continues his heartfelt wish to promote the love of classical music to young people and it also gives him a chance to collaborate with his wife, pianist Gina Alice. These two large scale orchestral works are complemented with solo compositions, including hidden gems by five female French composers as well as beloved French Classics.
Released today on 2 CDs, 2 LPs and digitally, the album sees the artist join forces with his wife, pianist Gina Alice, the Gewandhausorchester and conductor Andris Nelsons. At the heart of the album are the magical&nbsp;Carnival of the Animals, Saint-Sa&euml;ns&rsquo;s &ldquo;Grand Zoological Fantasy&rdquo; for two pianos and orchestra, and the same composer&rsquo;s virtuosic Piano Concerto No. 2. Also included are a dozen works for solo piano or piano four hands &ndash; a blend of Belle &Eacute;poque favourites and neglected gems by female French composers.
As an added treat, we are delighted to present a digital-only version of&nbsp;Carnival of the Animals&nbsp;which includes readings of the much-loved comic verses written to accompany each movement of the work by American poet Ogden Nash (1902-1971). First voiced by No&euml;l Coward on a recording issued in 1950, Nash&rsquo;s poems are here narrated by comedian and&nbsp;Tonight Show host Jimmy Fallon.
