Title

Long Yu - Shostakovich

Shanghai Symphony Orchestra Long Yu

ZIGMAN Émigré / Long Yu

Zigman: Émigré

‘Émigré’, an oratorio in two acts with music by Aaron Zigman, which was carefully developed over a period of five years, deals with a little-known chapter of the Second World War: the reception of Jewish refugees from Nazi Europe by the inhabitants of Shanghai in the 1930s. It tells a story in which kindness and love triumph over destructive historical forces. The oratorio has a libretto by Pulitzer Prize-winner Mark Campbell, with additional lyrics by Brock Walsh. It is the fifth project to emerge from DG's exclusive and fruitful agreement with the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra and Maestro Long Yu. The recording was released digitally earlier this year, and now "Émigré" is released on CD.

DG China releases the first four recordings from its complete Shostakovich symphony cycle, performed by the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Long Yu.
As the first Chinese orchestra to record the complete cycle of Shostakovich’s symphonies, the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra will present all 15 works over the course of four seasons, beginning in 2025. The project offers a dedicated interpretation of Shostakovich’s complete symphonic legacy and will culminate in 2029, when the complete recorded cycle will be released to mark the 150th anniversary of the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra.
In addition to the digital release, Symphonies Nos. 7, 8 and 9 are presented as a commemorative 3-LP vinyl box set. Closely connected with the Soviet Union’s “Great Patriotic War”, these three works form Shostakovich’s distinctive War Trilogy and stand among the most representative symphonic works capturing the profound psychological experiences of humanity in wartime.
The four albums are available digitally.
