STAGE+ Launches Its Offer for Academic Libraries Worldwide

Campus licences and consortial models bring classical music, jazz and audiovisual productions to universities and research institutions
Berlin, 27 October 2026. STAGE+, Deutsche Grammophon's streaming service for classical music and jazz, is launching an offer for libraries worldwide. Universities and research institutions can now obtain access through a campus licence or a consortium model. Students, faculty and researchers gain institutional access to a curated selection of audiovisual content, including livestreams, operas, concerts and documentaries, as well as more than 20,000 audio albums. The offer includes recordings spanning the past 119 years from the world's leading labels: Deutsche Grammophon, Decca Classics, ECM Records, Blue Note Records, Impulse!, Verve Records, Hyperion, Myrios and Carus. STAGE+ is the only service that meaningfully brings together audio and video catalogues as well as offerings from classical music and jazz. It therefore covers content types and genres that are otherwise spread across several existing academic platforms.
The academic offer is designed from the outset for institutional use: a campus licence gives access to all members of an institution, including off-campus access via IP authentication. Consortia and library networks can take out shared licences on attractive terms. STAGE+ thus complements individual consumer subscriptions with a model for research, teaching and shared library use. Depending on the production, audio is available in lossless quality up to 24-bit/48 kHz and Dolby Atmos, with video in 4K.
“STAGE+ brings a distinctive proposition to the academic classical music and jazz market: it combines extensive audio catalogues with concert and opera productions, as well as live and on-demand video, on a platform available under institutional licences,” says Dr Sven Fund, General Manager of STAGE+. “The offer complements both research-oriented audio libraries and specialist video archives.”
Libraries receive searchable metadata for works, composers, performers and ensembles through STAGE+. Opera subtitles are available to users in ten languages. Dedicated interfaces and usage statistics are also provided specifically for libraries.
The offer is available worldwide. Libraries and consortia can request trial access and pricing information at www.stage-plus.com/libraries

Available here: https://stage.plus/NotreDame
More than five years after it was ravaged by fire, France’s iconic Notre-Dame de Paris has reopened its doors with a star-studded concert to celebrate its restoration. Performances took place both inside and outside the cathedral on Saturday night (7 December), plus there was a stunning light display showcasing the building’s beautiful façade.
The rainy weather failed to dampen spirits as the cathedral hosted performances from a wide range of artists including Pharrell Williams, Angélique Kidjo, Lang Lang, Benjamin Bernheim, Marion Cotillard, Yo-Yo Ma, Khatia Buniatishvili, Pretty Yende and Daniel Lozakovich. Gustavo Dudamel conducted the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France throughout the concert. Earlier in the opening ceremony, organist Olivier Latry delivered a spine-tingling moment as he reawakened the cathedral’s famous pipes, plus there were performances from Renaud and Gautier Capuçon and Nadine Sierra.
Following their appearance, Lang Lang and Benjamin Bernheim will release a special duet as a tribute to Notre-Dame. They have recorded the Jacques Brel favourite ‘Quand on n’a que l’amour’ (‘When You Only Have Love’) in a new arrangement by Randy Kerber – to be released as a digital single on Deutsche Grammophon this Friday (13 December).
The historic concert is now available to watch as a catch-up stream on Deutsche Grammophon’s STAGE+ platform (available worldwide, except in France, Germany and Australia)

Notre-Dame de Paris will reopen its doors this weekend, having been restored to its former glory in just five years after a raging fire destroyed its 800-year-old wooden roof frame and caused its iconic spire to collapse on 15 April 2019.
On the afternoon of 7 December 2024 the Archbishop of Paris, Laurent Ulrich, will lead the reopening service, in the presence of President Emmanuel Macron, as well as many more heads of state and other distinguished guests. This ceremony, which will include the reawakening of the cathedral’s great organ, will be followed by a spectacular concert of pop, rock, world and classical music, designed to share the joy of reopening with an international audience and to thank all those who made the restoration possible.
A breathtaking line-up of global superstars are set to take part, from Pharrell Williams and Angélique Kidjo, to classical luminaries including opera stars Nadine Sierra, Pretty Yende and Benjamin Bernheim, pianists Lang Lang and Khatia Buniatishvili, organist Olivier Latry, violinists Renaud Capuçon and Daniel Lozakovich, and cellist Yo-Yo Ma. Gustavo Dudamel will conduct the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France. The artists will perform either inside Notre-Dame or in the square in front of the building’s western façade, which will be illuminated by a dazzling lightshow.
<externalmediaembed class="mceNonEditable mce-youtube" type="youtube" data-id="BzAG6yAIXzY"></externalmediaembed>
The entire event will be livestreamed on Deutsche Grammophon’s STAGE+ and subsequently offered as a Video on Demand from 6PM CET, Monday 9 December (available worldwide, except in France, Germany and Australia).
Lang Lang will join Gustavo Dudamel and the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France to present the finale of Saint-Saëns’s Second Piano Concerto. The full work can be heard on Lang Lang – Saint-Saëns (released earlier this year), together with the same composer’s Carnival of the Animals, alongside other gems of the French repertoire.
The Notre-Dame festivities will continue with the inaugural public Mass and consecration of the new altar on Sunday 8 December, followed by a week of other special events. On Monday 16 December the cathedral will return to its normal daily opening schedule, with millions of visitors expected to flock to Paris in the coming weeks and months to witness its miraculous rebirth with their own eyes.

Yunchan Lim in Seoul: Mendelssohn, Tchaikovsky & Mussorgsky Seoul Arts Center

When Yunchan Lim came home to Seoul for this recital from the Seoul Arts Center – filmed in June 2024 – he was given a rockstar reception. The young pianist, who shot to fame after his breathtaking triumph at the Van Cliburn Competition in 2022, has quickly established himself as one of the most exciting talents in classical music. His performance here immediately demonstrates why. He brings his characteristic mixture of musicality, stunning technique and inspirational interpretation to the music of three very different composers from the Romantic era: two favourite Songs without Words by Mendelssohn, followed by two masterpieces of descriptive music, Tchaikovsky’s The Seasons and Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition.

DG125 – John Williams in Tokyo Suntory Hall

In September 2023, film music legend John Williams made a hotly anticipated appearance with the Saito Kinen Orchestra as part of the Seiji Ozawa Matsumoto Festival in Tokyo. For this very special musical event, filmed in Tokyo's renowned Suntory Hall as part of Deutsche Grammophon’s 125th anniversary celebrations, he takes up the baton to conduct music from some of his most iconic scores: Superman, Schindler’s List, Star Wars, and Harry Potter. His musical colleague Stépane Denève also conducted selections from E.T., Far and Away, and a tribute to Seiji Ozawa, including Sound the Bells!, a piece inspired by Japan’s monumental temple bells.

Joana Mallwitz conducts Prokofiev, Weill & Mahler Konzerthaus Berlin

To open her first season as chief conductor and artistic director of the Konzerthausorchester in Berlin, Joana Mallwitz chose the first symphonies of three very different composers. She began with Prokofiev’s "Classical" Symphony – a playful and elegant example of early 20th-century neo-classicism, followed by Kurt Weill’s rarely performed First Symphony from 1921. The program concluded with Mahler’s emotionally charged Symphony No. 1, a masterpiece that redefined the symphonic genre. Mallwitz’s interpretation brought vitality, intensity, and a touch of the sublime to each of these extraordinary works.

DG125 – Víkingur Ólafsson: Bach’s Goldberg Variations Seoul Arts Center

Víkingur Ólafsson’s recording of Bach’s Goldberg Variations was one of the most eagerly anticipated releases of 2023, following his award-winning 2018 Bach album. This monumental project fulfilled a long-held ambition for the Icelandic pianist, who is now touring the Goldberg Variations around the world. Here he performs this iconic work live in the South Korean capital, with audiences in Seoul and worldwide via STAGE+’s live stream.

Nadine Sierra & Bryn Terfel in Donizetti’s L'elisir d'amore Royal Opera House

Nadine Sierra and Bryn Terfel star in Laurent Pelly’s vibrant production of Donizetti’s most popular comedy, *L'elisir d'amore*, at London’s Royal Opera House. Sierra dazzles as the spirited Adina, the object of Nemorino’s (Liparit Avetisyan) affection, while Terfel brings his unmatched charisma and comedic flair to the role of Dulcamara, the quirky quack doctor whose “love potion” leads to unexpected twists. Under the baton of conductor Sesto Quatrini, the Royal Opera Orchestra delivers a sparkling performance that makes this production truly irresistible.

Filmed live in Rome earlier this week, the opera is conducted by Daniel Harding in his inaugural appearance as Music Director of the Accademia di Santa Cecilia.
STAGE+ also presents two key performances from this summer’s festivals: Thorleifur Örn Arnarsson’s new Bayreuth production of Tristan und Isolde, conducted by Semyon Bychkov, with Camilla Nylund and Andreas Schager in the title roles, and the Salzburg Festival production of Weinberg’s The Idiot, directed by Krzysztof Warlikowski and conducted by Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla.

STAGE+ is also home to many classic opera productions of earlier decades. Highlights include two films based on Salzburg Festival productions. Conducted by Claudio Abbado and starring Hermann Prey and Teresa Berganza, Jean-Pierre Ponnelle’s 1972 staging of Il barbiere di Siviglia is a must-watch, as is Herbert von Karajan’s 1967 production of Carmen, which likewise combines the immediacy of live music with cinematic flair.
Finally, as well as full productions, STAGE+ is offering an array of operatic concerts. Brand-new to the platform is this week’s star-studded Georg Solti Accademia 20th-anniversary gala, filmed live at the Hungarian State Opera and featuring Aigul Akhmetshina, Freddie De Tommaso and Hera Hyesang Park.
Bayreuth Festival
Founded in 1876 by composer Richard Wagner, the Bayreuth Festival will soon be celebrating its 150th anniversary. Every summer Wagner’s ten “mature” operas are performed over the course of a month in the Festspielhaus designed by the composer himself. Wagner fans continue to flock to Bavaria year after year, but as tickets are like gold dust, why not watch from the comfort of your own home instead!
This year STAGE+ livestreamed the opening night of Thorleifur Örn Arnarsson’s new production of Tristan und Isolde on 25 July. There were re-runs the following day, and the film has now been added to the Bayreuth video-on-demand (VOD) collection. Conducted by Semyon Bychkov, the opera’s stellar cast is headed by Andreas Schager and Camilla Nylund in the title roles.
Thanks to the close partnership between Deutsche Grammophon and the Festival, STAGE+ now hosts the most comprehensive VOD archive of Bayreuth productions. This includes more than 30 full-length stagings, among them Barrie Kosky’s Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg (2017), Tobias Kratzer’s Tannhäuser (2019), Dmitri Tcherniakov’s Der fliegende Holländer (2021), Jay Scheib’s Parsifal and the most recent Bayreuth Ring cycles – those directed by Frank Castorf (exclusively available on STAGE+) and Valentin Schwarz – as well as Patrice Chéreau’s legendary “Centenary Ring” cycle (conducted by Pierre Boulez). Also on offer are documentaries, behind-the-scenes interviews and a stunning selection of audio albums. Discover the full Bayreuth archive here.

Salzburg Festival
Salzburg has a centuries-old association with classical music, not least as the birthplace of Mozart, whose operas remain a focus of its Festival. Established in 1920 to encompass both music and drama, the Festival gained particular renown in the mid-20th century – the Herbert von Karajan era. Since then it has continued to expand and now runs for five weeks each summer.
STAGE+ will be streaming three concerts from this year’s Salzburg Festival, all featuring the masterful playing of the Wiener Philharmoniker. We begin on 11 August with Mahler’s valedictory Symphony No. 9, conducted by Andris Nelsons. On 23 August, Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla conducts a first-rate international cast in Krzysztof Warlikowski’s new production of Mieczysław Weinberg’s final opera, The Idiot, its libretto based on the classic novel by Dostoevsky. Another day, another new opera production – on 24 August, tenor Benjamin Bernheim stars in the title role of Les Contes d’Hoffmann, directed by Mariame Clément and conducted by Offenbach specialist Marc Minkowski.
STAGE+ is also home to a wide-ranging Salzburg archive, featuring audio and video recordings of everything from solo recitals to orchestral concerts and operas. Recent additions to the Salzburg collection include Andris Nelsons’ interpretation of Mahler’s Fifth Symphony from the 2022 Festival and a 2015 Tchaikovsky and Brahms programme from Anne-Sophie Mutter and Riccardo Muti,

Verbier Festival
Although the Verbier Festival is considerably younger than its sister festivals in Bayreuth and Salzburg, it too has achieved global renown since it was founded in the heart of the Swiss Alps 30 years ago. Its aim is to enable exchanges between great masters and young artists from all over the world, thereby encouraging the development of the next generation of classical musicians.
STAGE+ will be livestreaming a recital of French and Polish music for violin and piano given by Bomsori and Julien Quentin on 29 July. Three other concerts from the current Festival are already available to view. Sir Simon Rattle conducts the Verbier Festival Orchestra in this year’s opening concert, a performance of Mahler’s Third Symphony, with mezzo-soprano soloist Magdalena Kožená. And there are solo piano recitals from the winner of the 2022 Van Cliburn Competition, Yunchan Lim (works by Mendelssohn, Tchaikovsky and Mussorgsky), and from recent DG signing Nobuyuki Tsujii (music by Bach, Liszt, Ravel and Kapustin).

Januar 2024 erhalten Sie die Deluxe-Edition von Bach – The Art of Life (2 CDs + 1 DVD) des Pianisten Daniil Trifonov.

Deutsche Grammophon and the Bayreuth Festival Enhance Their Global Media Partnership

STAGE+ will present the international online premiere of Jay Scheib’s new production of Parsifal (26 July)
Conducted by Pablo Heras-Casado, the superb cast of Parsifal is headed by Elīna Garanča and Andreas Schager
STAGE+ is also offering the most comprehensive Bayreuth VOD collection, with exciting additions of legendary performances spanning the era of Katharina Wagner as well as highlights from Wieland and Wolfgang Wagner’s tenures
Deutsche Grammophon is pleased to announce that its pioneering global media partnership with the Bayreuth Festival will be further expanded this year. In 2022, the label launched its ground-breaking classical music platform, STAGE+, which hosted the international premiere screenings of Valentin Schwarz’s thought-provoking new production of Der Ring des Nibelungen. Now the enhanced collaboration between DG and Bayreuth will allow for an even more comprehensive and in-depth online experience of the Festival.
Highlights will include Jay Scheib’s highly anticipated Parsifal from the Festspielhaus on STAGE+ one day after its live premiere. Virtual festivalgoers will be able to watch the opera on STAGE+ from 6pm CET on 26 July 2023 and – catering to the American and Asian territories – again on 27 July from midnight and 11am CET.
Making their Bayreuth debuts in the 2023 production of Parsifal are mezzo-soprano and exclusive DG artist Elīna Garanča – who will star as Kundry alongside tenor Andreas Schager in the title role – and conductor Pablo Heras-Casado. Its director, Jay Scheib, is internationally renowned for creating genre-defying stagings that push the boundaries of physicality and make imaginative use of cutting-edge technologies in live performance. Underlining its status as one of this year’s major theatre events, his Parsifal will employ augmented reality (AR) technology. Audience members in the Festspielhaus auditorium can choose to wear specially provided AR goggles offering access to an additional and immersive digital realm, whose imagery will expand the physical space. STAGE+ will incorporate these AR elements into the post-produced version at a later stage, so music fans who did not wear goggles in the theatre will be able to partake in this experience.
With the latest premiere and recent additions from the archives, STAGE+ offers the most comprehensive collection of Bayreuth Festival productions on demand. Notably, this encompasses all productions staged in the past decade since Katharina Wagner became the Festival’s sole Artistic and Managing Director, e.g. Tobias Kratzer’s Tannhäuser (2019) and Dmitri Tcherniakov’s Der fliegende Holländer (2021). From the eras of Wieland and Wolfgang Wagner, STAGE+ presents classic Bayreuth Festival stagings that made performance history, including Patrice Chéreau’s legendary “Centenary Ring” cycle. It will therefore be possible to compare and contrast this version on STAGE+ with the most recent Bayreuth Ring cycles – those directed by Frank Castorf (conducted by Marek Janowski) and Valentin Schwarz (conducted by Cornelius Meister). The experience will be complemented by the rich audio heritage of the Bayreuth Festival on the Decca and Deutsche Grammophon labels, in landmark recordings by conductors such as Karl Böhm, Pierre Boulez, Wolfgang Sawallisch and Christian Thielemann. STAGE+ subscribers will also have access to a wide array of behind-the-scenes films and interviews from the current Festival and past editions, some of which were produced in cooperation with German broadcaster BR-KLASSIK.
Wagner fans living in Germany, Austria or Switzerland will be able to enjoy a remarkable range of TV, radio and online offerings from BR-KLASSIK throughout this year’s Bayreuth Festival. Its radio station and online destination will broadcast seven performances, including Parsifal live on the opening afternoon, interview established stars and debut artists and host critics’ forums. The Bayreuth Festival will also stream the opening premiere to selected cinemas across Germany.

The inaugural Rising Stars series continues with a profile of Persian Canadian countertenor Cameron Shahbazi, who received ovations for his recent portrayal of Oberon in Oper Frankfurt’s new production of Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream (6 February). Subsequent editions feature Estonian violinist Hans Christian Aavik, winner of the 2022 Carl Nielsen International Competition (6 March); Deutsche Grammophon’s newly signed classical guitarist Raphaël Feuillâtre (3 April); the Russian-Lebanese soprano Anna El-Khashem, hailed by Die Welt as “the upcoming superstar” (1 May); and South Korean cellist Jaemin Han, described by cellist Myung-Wha Chung as “an extraordinary talent” (5 June).
Soprano Axelle Fanyo, winner of the prestigious 2019 Kaleidoscope Vocal Competition, explores her heritage as a French Black woman on 3 July, before Rising Stars turns to the German pianist Elisabeth Brauß, a former BBC New Generation Artist (7 August), and American soprano Emily Pogorelc, an ensemble member of the Bayerische Staatsoper (4 September).
Rising Stars will serve to intensify Deutsche Grammophon’s strategic investment in the future of classical music and the fostering of the finest young talent on the international scene. The series has been designed to show the qualities of the artist and the individual at a crucial moment in the development of their careers.

Berlin, am 21. November 2022.
<externalmediaembed class="mceNonEditable mce-youtube" type="youtube" data-id="ey2G3UlA0co"></externalmediaembed>
