It is exactly these moments that&nbsp;<a href="https://www.universal-music.de/davidgarrett">David Garrett</a> gathers on his new album Immortal, which arrives on Deutsche Grammophon on October 9, 2026 and is available for pre-order right now. The violinist, who on his artist profile has long moved effortlessly between the concert hall and the stadium stage, poses a question with this work that is as old as music itself: what remains when everything else fades away? His answer carries a name that says it all.
<h2>Immortal: David Garrett Takes On the Great Masters of Music</h2>
Behind the title lies no blunt marketing idea, but a question that has accompanied Garrett for a long time: what of the things we create truly endures? He phrases his answer himself with disarming clarity. When we talk about things that come close to immortality, it is art, and music in particular, that outlasts time and comes closest to the idea of immortality. From this conviction an album has grown that is dedicated to the lasting legacy of classical music and proceeds from the firm assumption that music can outlast time. Instead of preserving the old works like museum pieces, Garrett takes the bolder path he always has:
He reinterprets the pieces from a contemporary and, at the same time, deeply human perspective. The goal is explicitly not a nostalgia trip, but an album meant to connect generations, to stand for authenticity and, true to its title, to strive for timeless validity.
<h2>Which Tracks Can You Expect on the New David Garrett Album?</h2>
The list of compositions reads like a journey through more than three centuries of music history. At its center stand Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Claude Debussy, and John Williams, flanked by Johann Sebastian Bach, Felix Mendelssohn, Pyotr Tchaikovsky, Francesco Maria Veracini, and Johannes Brahms, as well as Jean Sibelius. With this, Garrett draws an arc from the Baroque through the Classical and Romantic eras all the way to the great film music of the present, treating a Hollywood score with the same seriousness as a concerto from the 18th century.
All of it becomes concrete on October 9, 2026. The album arrives digitally, on CD and on vinyl, and is additionally available in Dolby Atmos, which gives the arrangements an impressive sense of space, especially in a home cinema setup or with good headphones. Two scopes are on offer: the standard version comprises 20 tracks, the Deluxe Edition 25.
For Garrett, Immortal also marks a deliberate return. After most recently devoting himself on Millennium Symphony to symphonic reinterpretations of well-known pop and rock songs, he now presents a pure classical album once again. It is thus the logical continuation of the path he set out on in 2022 with the gold-certified album Iconic, only a shade more personal and uncompromising.
<h2>Nessun Dorma and the Signature Behind Immortal</h2>
Anyone who wants to know where the journey is headed has long had the first taste in their ears. Released as the advance single on June 26, 2026 was Garrett's reinterpretation of Puccini's Turandot aria Nessun Dorma, which he arranged himself together with John Haywood. That special quality runs through the entire album, because no one took a shortcut on the drawing board here. Garrett created all the arrangements himself, supported by co-arrangers Franck van der Heijden and John Haywood.
The album was recorded together with the orchestra The Prezent and pianist Julien Quentin, whose energy and expressiveness shape the sound significantly. No wonder Garrett is especially proud of one point: he describes the project as 100 percent handmade and hopes that listeners will not only enjoy the sound but also feel the human presence in the music.

ICONIC: David Garrett Pays Tribute  to the Iconic Violinists of the Golden Age

Deutsche Grammophon is delighted to announce the forthcoming release of David Garrett&rsquo;s latest album. Inspired by the legendary violinists whose dazzling showpieces and heart-melting melodies Garrett fell in love with as a child, Iconic includes more than twenty tracks and is set for release in all formats on 4&nbsp; November 2022. Music by Bach, Dvoř&aacute;k, Gluck, Kreisler, Mendelssohn and Schumann, among many others, is presented in new arrangements for violin, guitar and orchestra (by Franck van der Heijden and David Garrett). David Garrett is accompanied by his guitarist Franck van der Heijden &ndash; who also conducts the players of Orchestra The Prezent &ndash; as well as being joined in duet arrangements by his former teacher Itzhak Perlman, star tenor Andrea Bocelli, flautist Cocomi and trumpeter Till Br&ouml;nner.
David Garrett&rsquo;s personal choice of music evokes the golden era of violin virtuosi, when performers such as Zino Francescatti, Arthur Grumiaux, Jascha Heifetz, Fritz Kreisler and Yehudi Menuhin delighted audiences with popular encores and other minatures. As a young musician, he looked up to these and other players from the past, aspired to emulate their artistry and immersed himself in their historic recordings.
&ldquo;Sadly, in the last few decades, many violinists have stopped performing some of the short, instantly memorable works the greats of the 20s and 30s played in their recitals,&rdquo; notes Garrett. &ldquo;That&rsquo;s why it means so much to me to get the chance to bring all these beautiful works back to life.&rdquo;
Iconic opens with the seductive romance of Estrellita by Mexican composer Manuel Ponce. Its programme of unforgettable melodies also includes Saint-Sa&euml;ns&rsquo;s The Swan and Danse macabre; Foster&rsquo;s Jeanie with the light brown hair; Raff&rsquo;s Cavatina; Faur&eacute;&rsquo;s Apr&egrave;s un r&ecirc;ve; and the central Largo of the &ldquo;Winter&rdquo; Concerto from Vivaldi&rsquo;s Four Seasons. Garrett teams up with Andrea Bocelli in an exquisite arrangement of Schubert&rsquo;s Ave Maria; Itzhak Perlman in Shostakovich&rsquo;s Praeludium; Japanese flautist Cocomi in Debussy&rsquo;s La fille aux cheveux de lin; and German trumpeter Till Br&ouml;nner in Dinicu&rsquo;s virtuosic Hora staccato.
&ldquo;Pieces like these shaped my musical thinking,&rdquo; recalls the violinist. &ldquo;I&rsquo;ve recorded many virtuoso albums myself and this time it was particularly important to me to refocus on the essentials, on what really speaks to the heart. The works on Iconic aren&rsquo;t primarily about virtuosity. They have great melodies which bring listeners closer to what really matters in life &ndash; to harmony!&rdquo;
Iconic will be issued as a standard CD and double-disc LP. It will also be available as a Deluxe CD containing three bonus tracks, Paganini&rsquo;s stunning Moto perpetuo among them, and as a digital album featuring the additional bonus of Kreisler&rsquo;s Sch&ouml;n Rosmarin.
David Garrett began playing violin at the age of four. He made his stage debut when he was ten and became the youngest artist ever to sign to Deutsche Grammophon just three years later. By his mid-teens he had built a stellar solo career and recorded all twenty-four of Paganini&rsquo;s fiendishly difficult Caprices. He subsequently enrolled at New York&rsquo;s world-famous Juilliard School as one of Itzhak Perlman&rsquo;s first students. Over the past two decades he has played with many of the world&rsquo;s leading orchestras and conductors and reached new audiences around the globe with concerts that include rock anthems, classical sonatas, solo showpieces and film themes. Revealing the sometimes rocky path he has travelled from child prodigy to successful adult artist, his autobiography, Wenn ihr w&uuml;sstet (&ldquo;If&nbsp;you only knew&rdquo;), was published earlier this year.
