Liminal

Composer and Pianist Joep Beving announces his upcoming album Liminal, on which he explores humanity&rsquo;s role within a broader, more-than-human ecology, seeking connection with rather than separation from nature.&nbsp;&nbsp;
The album draws inspiration from Guillaume Log&eacute;&rsquo;s book &ldquo;Wild Renaissance&rdquo; and was created in response to growing uncertainty and the breakdown of old systems. Composed of 15 solo piano pieces partly intertwined with electronics, the project inhabits a liminal space that transports the audience on an atmospheric journey between contemporary compositions and introspective sound poetry, urging them to experience the world beyond binary divisions and discover new resonance. It alternates between moments of precise, intentional composition and sections where sound evolves organically, blurring the line between control and intuition.&nbsp;&nbsp;
&ldquo;The album moves between two sides. Sometimes, I try to shape and refine sound into its purest form. Other times, the music seems to flow on its own, shifting, fading, and returning to silence as if guided by something natural. It&rsquo;s less about structure and more about connection, resonance, and change, closer to ecology than architecture,&rdquo; says Beving.&nbsp;

Joep Beving, one of the world&rsquo;s best-loved and most-streamed pianists, has written and recorded an album of brand-new material. Out on 20 March 2026, Liminal will be available as a limited-edition 2LP set on eco-vinyl &ndash; the discs are housed in a gatefold sleeve and the album comes with a signed artcard by Joep Beving. 
Liminal was inspired by Guillaume Log&eacute;&rsquo;s book Wild Renaissance, and joins its call for closer, more symbiotic connections between human activity and the natural world. The author&rsquo;s vision of a world in which men see nature as a creative partner spoke to Beving, encouraging him to write new works that could form part of a 21st-century Renaissance movement. &ldquo;With this music,&rdquo; he explains, &ldquo;I wanted to explore our small but meaningful place in the bigger picture, stepping away from human-centered thinking and towards a way of creating &lsquo;with&rsquo; nature, rather than apart from it.&rdquo;
Together, the 15 tracks on Liminal expand into a realm of uncertainty. &ldquo;Throughout the album, there&rsquo;s a constant dialogue between control and intuition,&rdquo; says Beving. &ldquo;It reflects that in‑between space; the liminal zone where meaning is still forming.&rdquo;
