On their upcoming album Zwielicht (&ldquo;Twilight&rdquo;), baritone Matthias Goerne and pianist Markus Hinterh&auml;user explore some of Robert Schumann&rsquo;s most profound and deeply personal songs. &nbsp;
At the heart of the recording is the composer&rsquo;s Liederkreis, Op. 39, a landmark of German musical Romanticism, setting poems by Joseph von Eichendorff. The album is complemented by a selection from Lieder und Ges&auml;nge aus Wilhelm Meister, Op. 98a, and the moving Gedichte der K&ouml;nigin Maria Stuart, Op. 135, composed near the end of Schumann&rsquo;s life.&nbsp;
Goerne and Hinterh&auml;user have performed together as a Lieder duo since 2014, having presented their interpretations of the repertoire on Zwielicht at leading venues including the Salzburg Festival, the Vienna Konzerthaus and Munich&rsquo;s Prinzregententheater, among many others.&nbsp;
The album is released digitally and on CD on 24 July and is now available for pre-order.&nbsp;
