Daniel Barenboim and the Berliner Philharmoniker release their album featuring César Franck’s Symphony in D minor and Gabriel Fauré's Pelléas et Mélisande.
In June 2023, Daniel Barenboim conducted the Berliner Philharmoniker in a French program including Franck’s Symphony in D minor and Gabriel Fauré’s Orchestral Suite of incidental music to Maeterlinkck’s play Pelléas et Mélisande. The concert with the Berliner Philharmoniker was so special that he decided to preserve it as a recording for DG. It bears witness to the special, decades-long bond and artistic partnership and further demonstrates the maestro’s unique understanding of tonal colour and style. This year is the 60th anniversary of Barenboim’s first appearance with the Berliner Philharmoniker, as solo pianist, whilst he first conducted the orchestra in 1969. We also commemorate this year the 100th anniversary of the death of Fauré.
The album is released digitally today, with the release of a CD-version following on 1 November.
