Product Information
Following the Opus Klassik-winning Original Source Edition William Steinberg & Boston Symphony Orchestra – The DG Recordings, we present the reprint of two albums on vinyl: Holst’s The Planets and Richard Strauss’s Also sprach Zarathustra. Recorded in 1970 and 1971, these landmark performances by Steinberg and the BSO remain among the finest interpretations of 20th-century orchestral repertoire.
Steinberg’s The Planets combines powerful orchestral playing with exceptional precision and colour, while his Also sprach Zarathustra, recorded at Boston’s Symphony Hall, is renowned for its clarity, balance and dramatic impact. Praised by critics and listeners alike, both recordings continue to be regarded as reference performances.
As part of the acclaimed Original Source Series, both albums have been remastered and cut directly from the original four- and eight-track analogue master tapes at Emil Berliner Studios using an all-analogue (AAA) process. Pressed on 180g vinyl and presented in deluxe gatefold editions with original artwork, additional photographs, facsimiles of the recording logs and tape boxes, and an essay on the remastering process, these standalone releases bring two celebrated recordings back to vinyl in outstanding sound quality.
The albums will be released on 8 January and are now available for pre-order in the DG Store.
