Released on our partner label Myrios, mezzo-soprano Anna Lucia Richter’s album presents both Mahler’s Des Knaben Wunderhorn Lieder and his Kindertotenlieder – two cycles that illuminate human fate in all its facets like few others.  

In the Des Knaben Wunderhorn Lieder we encounter tender childhood memories and bizarre stories – a world between irony, folk song and deep melancholy. The harrowing contrast is provided by the Kindertotenlieder, in which Mahler sets the pain of the loss of a child to music with poignant clarity and touching restraint. Together with the Gürzenich Orchestra Cologne under the baton of Jordan de Souza, Richter gives these songs a new, very personal dimension with her highly nuanced voice.
