GUSTAV MAHLER

Leonard Bernstein was a key figure in the “Mahler Renaissance” of the 1960s and played an important role in establishing the composer as staple of the repertoire of the world’s great orchestras. He was also the first conductor to produce a cycle of the completed symphonies as audio-visual recordings. Here with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, which was itself deeply influenced by working with Mahler at the turn of the 20th century, he brings the composer’s First Symphony vividly to life.
