MENDELSSOHN String Quartet No. 6 in F Minor, Op. 80: I. Allegro vivace assai / Aris Quartett | Deutsche Grammophon

Our Musical Moments Series continues with a performance of the first movement of Felix Mendelssohn’s String Quartet No. 6 in F minor by the Aris Quartett. Written in the aftermath of his sister Fanny’s death, the String Quartet stands among the composer’s most intense and personal works. In the opening Allegro vivace assai, Aris Quartett brings sharp contrasts, restless energy, and tightly focused ensemble playing to music driven by urgency and emotional force.
