The dramas of French playwright Beaumarchais – most notably
Le Barbier de Séville and its sequel
La Folle Journée ou Le Mariage de Figaro – have inspired various composers over the years. DG is reissuing two classic recordings of Beaumarchais-based operas. Claudio Abbado’s famous version of Rossini’s
Il barbiere di Siviglia is newly repackaged on CD, Blu-ray Audio and DVD video, while Karl Böhm’s interpretation of
Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro appears on CD and, for the first time, Blu-ray Audio, in 24 bit/96 kHz remastered from the original analogue tapes. Hermann Prey stars as Figaro in both operas.
