On this album, Hermann Prey sings Franz Schubert’s Schwanengesang, accompanied by Leonard Hokanson at the piano. Hardly any other singer was as closely associated with Franz Schubert’s songs as the German baritone. The three Schubert cycles—Die schöne Müllerin, Winterreise and, in particular, Schwanengesang—accompanied him throughout his entire artistic career and shaped his artistic perspective. “These songs hold a special place in my musical world,” wrote Prey in his autobiography Premierenfieber. His recordings are still considered a benchmark for song interpretation today. The album is available digitally for the first time.
