Product Information
On his upcoming album Tchaikovsky, star-pianist Daniil Trifonov presents a beautiful selection of the iconic composer’s solo works that reflect him at his most intimate and private.
The work is threaded through with themes of both mother and childhood, youth and family. It contains the rarely performed early Piano Sonata in C sharp minor, Op. 80, the Thème original et variations in F major, Op. 19/6, and the Children’s Album. Additionally, Trifonov has recorded the Concert Suite from the Ballet The Sleeping Beauty, created by a young Mikhail Pletnev in 1978. The album unearths a side to Tchaikovsky that is often overlooked.
“We think of him as an archetypical Romantic,” says Trifonov. “But particularly in his younger years, Tchaikovsky found joy in his close relationships and emotional comfort in his family.”
Listen to a third pre-release track, a joyful interpretation of ‘Fairy of Silver’ from Tchaikovsky’s The Sleeping Beauty, Op. 66. The full album will be released digitally, on CD as well as on vinyl on 3 October and is available for pre-order.
