On 28 May 2025, the great baritone Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau would have been 100 years old. To mark the occasion, Deutsche Grammophon is releasing his performance of Handel’s secular cantata Apollo e Dafne, an album that has not yet entered the digital supply chain. On the album, Fischer-Dieskau is accompanied by members of the Berliner Philarmoniker, augmented by harpsichord, lute and viola da gamba. Günter Weissenborn, Fischer-Dieskau’s long-time piano accompanist, conducts the chamber ensemble with an astonishing knowledge of historical performance practice.
Listen to a pre-release track, a joyful and energetic rendition of the Aria No. 11 entitled Come rosa in su la spina. The full album is released digitally on 23 May and is now available for pre-order.
