Product Information
On 28 May 2025, the great baritone Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau would have been 100 years old. To mark the occasion, Deutsche Grammophon is releasing excerpts from his performance as arch villain Iago in Verdi’s well-known opera Othello sung in German.
Joined by Wolfgang Windgassen in the title role and Teresa Stratas as Desdemona, world-class singers of the sixties stood in front of the microphones. Otto Gerdes on the podium of the Bayerisches Staatsorchester was not only a fantastic conductor, he was also the artistic director of the DG from 1963 to 1970.
The full album is released digitally.

We are aware that the cover would not be designed in the same way today. However, we have decided to retain it as a historical document because it respectfully portrays the character of Othello in a manner that is in no way disparaging or derogatory.
