On 28 May 2025, the great baritone Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau would have been 100 years old. To mark the occasion, Deutsche Grammophon is releasing excerpts from his performance as arch villain Iago in Verdi’s well-known opera Othello sung in German.

Joined by Wolfgang Windgassen in the title role and Teresa Stratas as Desdemona, world-class singers of the sixties stood in front of the microphones. Otto Gerdes on the podium of the Bayerisches Staatsorchester was not only a fantastic conductor, he was also the artistic director of the DG from 1963 to 1970.
