Hope is an Easter work for mixed choir, alto saxophone, piano, bass and percussion by Danish composer John Høybye, highly regarded far beyond Scandinavia as a (choral) conductor, arranger and composer. Renowned chamber choir Ars Nova Copenhagen, accompanied by saxophonist Mads Haaber’s Quartet, offer a “typically Høybye” mixture of beautiful classical choral sound and rhythmic intensity in jazz-inspired phrases. Hope is complemented by Høybye’s setting of Psalm 151 for choir and solo violin and the album is released today.
