Estonian violinist Hans-Christian Aavik gives a moving and atmospheric performance of O magnum mysterium by Morten Lauridsen. The piece began life as an unaccompanied choral work, setting a medieval text that describes the “great mystery” of Christ’s humble birth in a stable. Lauridsen’s arrangement for violin and piano retains all the beauty and sense of wonder of the original. Hans-Christian is accompanied by his wife and long-term musical partner Karolina Aavik.
