Nadine Sierra presents “Einer wird kommen” (Someone will come), from Lehár’s Der Zarewitsch (The Tsarevich). Unusually for operetta, this work is quite serious in tone, and lacks the conventional happy ending. The heroine Sonja sings this yearning number in Act One, while waiting to meet the tsar’s son. She wonders whether she will find love, and whether it will bring her joy or regret, before deciding to accept whatever the future has in store for her. Sierra echoes her shifting emotions with rich colours and clarity of tone, sensitively accompanied by Riccardo Frizza and the Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della RAI.
