Product Information
On their album Zwielicht (“Twilight”), baritone Matthias Goerne and pianist Markus Hinterhäuser explore some of Robert Schumann’s most profound and deeply personal songs.
At the heart of the recording is the composer’s Liederkreis, Op. 39, a landmark of German musical Romanticism, setting poems by Joseph von Eichendorff. The album is complemented by a selection from Lieder und Gesänge aus Wilhelm Meister, Op. 98a, and the moving Gedichte der Königin Maria Stuart, Op. 135, composed near the end of Schumann’s life.
Goerne and Hinterhäuser have performed together as a Lieder duo since 2014, having presented their interpretations of the repertoire on Zwielicht at leading venues including the Salzburg Festival, the Vienna Konzerthaus and Munich’s Prinzregententheater, among many others.
The album is released digitally and on CD.
