Beethoven’s Piano Trios – Daniel Barenboim, Michael Barenboim, Kian Soltani

We announce the release of Daniel Barenboim’s new album performing Beethoven’s Piano Trios with his son Michael Barenboim and cellist Kian Soltani. The trio, founded by Barenboim 2016, recorded the two concerts performing the seven piano trios in the Pierre Boulez Saal Berlin, December 2019.
There is a lack of equality in the world, says Daniel Barenboim. For only if everybody were equal would there be no conflicts. Equal standing is also indispensable for the piano trios of Beethoven, whom the pianist-conductor has always regarded as one of the most important, if not the most important, of all the composers in his life.
Listen to the first pre-release track Beethoven: 10 Variations on "Ich bin der Schneider Kakadu", Op. 121a, Introduction. Adagio assai.
Tickets are available for the stream of the second part of the concert on DG Stage here. The album is released November 27.

Do you know ALL of Beethoven's best-known melodies? Test yourself!

As the Beethoven 250th anniversary year leads up to its climax this autumn, have some fun with this series of 6 collections of Beethoven’s melodies.
Be honest, do you really know them all?!
We have grouped up to 10 ca. 1-minute excerpts of Beethoven’s best-known melodies into their musical genres from the symphonies through sonatas and concertos to the string quartets. Taken together the melodies shine a light on the colourful and rich oeuvre of one of classical music’s great geniuses.
Write to us with your thoughts (and exact up to 90-second timings please!) on which OTHER melodies you think also deserve to be mentioned in such a series. We would be delighted to publish a selection of your suggestions in a following newsletter. And if an interesting selection comes together, we will create a further album of excerpts based on your further choices.

Title

Rafał Blechacz Dresdner Philharmonie Kent Nagano

PIANO CONCERTOS Rafał Blechacz

Mozart: Piano Concerto No. 24 in C Minor - Beethoven: Piano Concerto No. 3 in C Minor; 32 Variations in C Minor

MOZART Piano Concerto No. 24 in C Minor
BEETHOVEN Piano Concerto No. 3 in C Minor 32 Variations in C Minor

On his new album, pianist Rafał Blechacz lays his focus on the expressive power of C minor. Together with the Dresdner Philharmonie under Kent Nagano, he presents Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 24 in C Minor, K. 491 and Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 3 in C Minor, Op. 37 – two landmark works that reveal the dramatic, introspective and visionary possibilities of the piano concerto.
The programme is completed by Beethoven’s 32 Variations in C Minor, WoO 80, placing Blechacz both in dialogue with the orchestra and alone at the keyboard. Bringing together major concerto repertoire and solo Beethoven, the album offers a focused musical narrative that connects Mozart and Beethoven through one of classical music’s most expressive tonalities.
The album is available now digitally and on CD. Order the CD edition from the DG Store.
