The Avantgarde Series 2.0
The revitalisation of the trailblazing series that achieved cult status between 1968–1971 moves now as a catalogue series to vinyl, following a box-set CD edition (now sold out) and individual digital releases in 2023 (below).
The new vinyls are mastered by Rainer Maillard and cut by Sidney C. Meyer of the renowned Emil Berliner Studios, utilising, wherever possible, their 100% pure analogue techniques honed during their continuing work on our Original Source Series.
Many titles will be returning to vinyl for the first time. Furthermore, the series is being expanded to include other reference recordings of 20th Century repertoire. This first batch of albums – including music by Luc Ferrari, Mauricio Kagel and Toru Takemitsu – will be released on 1 May and is now available for exclusive pre-order in the DG Store.
Vinyls
The Avantgarde series was created in 1968 to present visionary recordings of the then musical avant-garde. Over 50 years later the series is still an unsurpassed collection of iconic 20th century music, remembered for its impressive scope and meticulous production as well as its particularly colourful sleeves.
We now bring back those albums, pressed on 180-gram heavyweight virgin vinyl in limited & numbered editions, featuring the original vivid artwork (cover and back) and original liner notes, extensive new essays by Bradford Bailey, and a full-sized obi with a design paying homage to the groundbreaking original artwork.
