Dreamscapes opens the door to a world where the imagination runs free
and invites listeners to dream without limits”

Eunike Tanzil

After signing to the Yellow Label in 2024, Los Angeles‑based Indonesian composer-pianist-producer Eunike Tanzil released her debut Deutsche Grammophon album in September  2025. She now follows the success of The First of Everything with Dreamscapes, a generous six-track digital EP, again recorded with the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin and conductor Anna Handler, with Eunike herself on solo piano. The EP will be released on 26 June 2026, with the title track issued as a first single on 8 May and Pearl’s Lullaby as a second on 5 June.

Eunike’s music has been warmly received by the critics. Der Spiegel has hailed its use of “complex instrumentation” and absence of “intellectual pretension”, adding, “Strongly influenced by film soundtracks, her works are sometimes powerful, sometimes fragile, always intensely emotional and driven by a deep love of melody.” Reviewing The First of Everything, HIGHRESAUDIO noted the album offered “everything that makes for musical enjoyment … the sonic packaging of emotion is an art that Eunike Tanzil masters with virtuosity.” There was praise too for the DSO Berlin and Anna Handler for translating “the notated mood into acoustic experiences … with utmost mastery: the sound is full, velvety, powerful or delicate, depending on what seems coherent and meaningful.”

Dreamscapes takes up where The First of Everything left off, continuing its sense of narrative invention and excitement. “My new EP,” explains Eunike, “was inspired by the sounds of my childhood – melodies that first made me dream of becoming a composer. Growing up in a city without live orchestras, my earliest introduction to orchestral music came through animated films.”

The title track instantly takes us into a world of adventure, like the start of a journey, full of rich orchestral landscapes. Scurrying strings, jaunty woodwind and resounding brass, punctuated by the intimate sound of Eunike’s piano, set the scene for SOARING!, while the 3/4 rhythm of Flying Kites suggests colourful kites dancing high in the sky.

Dreamscapes brings me back to those early memories of being a child again, with music that captures optimism and hope,” adds the composer. “I used the orchestra as a canvas to paint my imagination, like soaring through the clouds or a dog chasing butterflies.”

Two of the tracks feature just Eunike, on solo piano. The gently rippling melody of Pearl’s Lullaby is the perfect invitation to sleep and dream – its theme is also given a lush orchestral development in Pearl’s Fantasia. And Dreamscapes ends with The Ringtone Waltz, which has touches of both humour and beauty. It showcases Eunike’s ability – as heard in her hugely popular Hum Me A Melody series – to take any musical fragment and totally transform it. Here, she turns her raw material, a world-renowned theme composed by Spanish composer Francisco Tárrega, into an elegant waltz.

Eunike and Anna Handler, who have been friends and artistic collaborators since they met as students at The Juilliard School in New York, recently had another exciting project: the world premiere of Eunike’s Prelude to Light. Having premiered her friend’s Ode to the City of Dreams last summer at the Hollywood Bowl with the LA Philharmonic, Anna conducted her own ensemble, Enigma Classica, in Prelude to Light as part of her debut at the Hamburg Elbphilharmonie on 17 April 2026. Also this year, Eunike has been named a Classic FM Rising Star and announced as the Colorado Springs Philharmonic’s first composer in residence, a collaboration that begins in September 2026 as the orchestra celebrates its centennial season.
