Hansjörg Schellenberger (born in 1948) is a German oboist and conductor. He took part in numerous concerts, many of them dedicated to contemporary music, and obtained prizes in several international competitions. He was soloist of renowned orchestras such as the Cologne Radio Orchestra and of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra and played under conductors such as Karajan, Leinsdorf, Giulini, Muti, Mehta and Abbado. He has dedicated a great part of his artistic activity to chamber music and teaching. In addition, he was chief conductor and artistic director of the Berliner Symphoniker.
His new album of works by Bach, Schumann, Britten and Poulenc is released as part of DG’s debut series, which presents first or very early recordings by artists who went on to build considerable careers.
