Late young Italian pianist Dino Ciani was a pianist with an impressively broad repertoire for his age. No other than the great Alfred Cortot praised him as: “miraculously gifted … one of the most remarkable examples of the rarest talents one could hope to find”. Ciani collaborated with conductors such as Claudio Abbado and Carlo Maria Giulini. Unfortunately, he was killed in a road accident at the age of 32. Ciani’s new album featuring Schumann’s Novelletten is released digitally as part of DG’s debut series, which presents first or very early recordings by artists who went on to build considerable careers.
