Blind Japanese star pianist Nobuyuki Tsujii announces his upcoming second album for DG, on which he turns to the emotionally strongest sound worlds of Russian Romanticism.
Together with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra under Domingo Hindoyan, Nobu performs Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 3, one of the most technically demanding works in the piano literature. This is complemented by carefully selected solo piano transcriptions of works by two of Rachmaninoff’s most important forerunners, Tchaikovsky and Rimsky-Korsakov.
“Piano transcriptions are fascinating because the arrangers are usually outstanding pianists. They know exactly what is needed to get the maximum out of the instrument. It’s always a pleasure to play these pieces,” says Nobu.
Listen to a first pre-release track of Rachmaninoff’s How Fair This Spot, Op. 21 No. 7, as transcribed for piano by Volodos. The full album is released digitally and on CD on 9 January and is now available for pre-order.
